Britishness

 

Definition

Britishness is the state or quality of being British or of embodying British characteristics, and is used to refer to that which binds and distinguishes British people and forms the basics of their unity and identity, or else to explain expressions of British culture 0 such as habits, behaviours or symbols.

Scenario

You have been commissioned by the City of Bristol Council to create a piece of graphic work to represent what Britishness is to you. Your work has to have a highly creative use of the juxtaposition of text and imagery. Your work can be designed for any printed form and will used for both indoor and outdoor spaces across the city to showcase you work in public forums. As your work is being displayed in public areas your work can be critical or disproving of Britishness but it cannot be explicit in nature.

Brief Overview

You are to plan, develop and produce a personal graphical piece representing your take on “Britishness”.

Your work should be a blend of hand drawn and computer generated imagery from primary sources.

Your piece could be in the form of an advertisement, a piece of digital art or a piece selected by yourself and agreed with by your tutor.

This should be a showcase of the skills you have developed in the previous weeks of this unit.
